I just finished reading Demon Hunter: The Chosen One, by Cynthia Vespia. For fans of dark fantasy, this book is a must read. It has all the qualities dark fiction readers could want: adventure; mystery; demons; werewolves; vampires and more. There is evil lurking in the shadows and young Costa is searching for who he really is. As he unlocks the secrets of his past, he finds himself facing a frightening and dangerous future, should he choose to follow the destiny that he reveals to be his. Used to facing adversity alone, he must learn to accept and depend on the help of his new found family, who teach him the meaning true friendship. Through these lessons he learns not only who he is, but also where his strengths and weaknesses lie, and how they can best be put to use to accomplish the tasks that lie ahead. This medieval tale will take you on an adventure into the darker realms, with characters that you come to care about and love. As in all such tales, good must triumph over evil, but will Costa learn his lessons fast enough and well enough to accomplish the task? A truly good, old fashioned legend and lore adventure novel that leaves readers thirsting for the sequel, which, fortunately, is coming out this month. Once you read this one, you wonâ€t want to miss Demon Hunter: Seek and Destroy. Both are available in digital format and can be purchased through the Cynthia Vespia Book Store.
Just finished Demon Hunter: Seek & Destroy. Loved it. When Your writing reminded me of Stephen King’s last book. The dead rising on the battered ship gave the same eerie horrific chills and thrills as the dead things on the ancient ship off Duma Key. From Chapter Five on, the fast pace had me totally mesmerized. Like you wrote to explore the love phenomenon in a horror novel surprised me by the way it increased the depth of my characters. And it truly did. Costa had to confront all those physical demons as well as his own psychological demons. And he did! High adventure, steamy love affair, deception, demons, vampires werewolves, zombies and even Satin himself. Thanks for the exciting ride!
The second book in Cynthia Vespias Demon Hunter series, Seek and Destroy has a little of everything that lovers of the supernatural might be looking for. Costa Calabrese is back, with his friends Talisa and Paralay, for more action and adventure in the dark realm. This time, love plays a role in motivating the demon hunter’s actions, pushing him accept the unrequested lot that he has been given in life and to face evil head on, in darker forms than ever before. Shape shifting demons, walking dead, dragons, werewolves, the hounds of hell, and even the dark lord himself await Costa and his friends in this adventurous journey that leads across the storming seas and straight into the pit of hell. Along the way there is self-revelation for Costa, especially when he thinks that he has lost the one he loves forever. For good to triumph over evil, Costa must come to terms with who he is and learn to take control of his fate from here on out. To find out if Costa and his friends can conquer their fears and win the battles that lay before them, a copy of Demon Hunter: Seek and Destroy can be acquired through the Cynthia Vespia Book Store. I highly recommend that you get your copy today.

My Thoughts:
First of all, this story seems like it had taken place a ways back in the past. So it did take me a few pages before I really got into the story. First we meet young, Costa, who is a youth looking for all types of adventure and he drags along his god friend, Tuck. Now in these days during the story, Costa has been kept as somewhat of a slave to the tavern owner in the town. So he gets his butt beat if he is not where he is supposed to be. Costa longs for more. But it seems that that 'more' was going to find him sooner than he thought.
On one adventure, Tuck and Costa are out in the woods making their way back to town, when all of a sudden they are confronted with a man, who appears to be evil. Escaping from that incident, unscathed, Costa is caught by surprise again, now he is in the care of the evil man from the woods.
The story is about a young man, coming into his own - finding out who he really is. It's an incredible story. He feels out of place, he's a loner, but eventually finds a kind of commrodry with two others that he never thought would happen. But he faces the darkness, with the evils lurking in every shadow because they want to know about him and his background (hence his family name). He faced some tough decisions and lost people very close to him, but he managed to pull through.
The characters were just like you and me. That made the story all the more better to read. I love it when I can envision the characters in my head and even the description of the areas where the went was amazing. But the plot, in and of itself was by far, the best of the story. Who doesn't like a book filled with mystery, evil and action. I know I do!
Ms. Vespia gave me the opportunity to read this book and I'm really glad that I accepted. I'm looking forward to reading more about the adventures of Costa. I know there is a second story in the works or going to be released sometime soon and I can't wait to read it. Thank you so much for giving me the chance to read your wonderful book!
Demon Hunter: Seek and Destroy is the second book in the Demon Hunter series by Cynthia Vespia. Its action packed with demons, zombies, dragons, werewolves, hell hounds and even Satan himself. Costa Calabrese seems to be somewhat reluctant demon hunter dealing with the hand that fate dealt him. He, along with his companions Talisa and the Elven Paralay have set out on a journey across the sea to find and kill the Dragon Sark. However their sea voyage is cut short by a tsunami and they are blown off course and shipwrecked on an island.Â
This is where the action really gets going. Once they land on the island they encounter evil in many forms, zombies and shape shifting demons to name a just a few. Costa’s fighting skills and the wisdom passed down from his demon hunter father pull them through from one adventure to the next.
Costa and Talisa develop a romantic relationship and Costa’s fear of losing love now that he has found it leads him to challenge the Dark Lord and confront his own personal demons in the process. He must come to terms with his fate as a demon hunter in order to find happiness in himself and his personal relationships.
A fast paced, thriller with surprises at every turn, I found this book difficult to put down once I started reading. If you enjoy an action adventure story with a dark edge and lots of supernatural creatures you will certainly enjoy Demon Hunter: Seek and Destroy.
DEMON HUNTER: THE CHOSEN ONE by Cynthia Vespia (2009 Aspen Mountain Press)
Although the cover of this e-book looks like one of those dime-a-dozen, trendy, sex-packed chick-lit deals, and despite a warning that the story contains adult scenes and language and to store it with e-books that cannot be accessed by kids (I kid you not), Vespia's DEMON HUNTER: THE CHOSEN ONE turned out to be more like a classic re-telling of Conan with a bit of Doug Clegg's "Priest of Blood" series thrown in. In fact, there's absoultely NO sex and hardly any profanity here, so why the author and/or publisher felt compelled to slap a warning before the story is anyone's guess.
Vespia's tale of a 16 year-old hunter named Costa Calabrese is chock-full of action, demons, shapeshifters, and vampires (who are thankfully vicious bloodsuckers, NOT "Twilight-ish" cry babies). When Costa returns from the woods one day to find his village in ruins, he moves on and becomes a student of Talos, a seasoned fighter and teacher of young warriors. Costa also learns his father (who he never knew) was a famous demon hunter who was also a friend of Talos.
What follows is standard sword & sorcery fare, although Vespia's fine writing keeps the pages flipping (or scrolling, considering this is an e-book). There's nothing new here for fans of this stuff, but the tale itself is well told and the unlikely alliance between Costa, a headstrong elf named Paralay, and Talos' daughter, Talisa, are memorable enough that they should hold up fine to future adventures (a second title, DEMON HUNTER: SEEK AND DESTROY (also 2009), was released shortly after this one).
Perhaps the publisher should've went with a different cover design; this book will easily appeal to monster fans, but will most likely turn off those who come seeking a beefcake romance. -Nick Cato
The Pen & Muse Blog:
What I liked: The second book in the series for Demon Hunter: Seek and Destroy is the the new story of Costa, the newest edition to the demon hunters. Aided by his friends and companions will embark on a journey to conquer and face evil. Will they survive? Will they surive or will companions also become Costa's own opposition? This is a must read, I would recommend reading the first book in the series, called The Chosen first to get a bit more background though. Get your adventure, action, and demon hunting face on and go read Demon Hunter!
