Review: Harleen Graphic Novel

Graphic novels combine the talents of artists and authors. It is my dream to someday have one of my own graphic novels created. When I do, I'll be drawing from Harleen by Stjepan Šejić for inspiration!

I got Harleen as a birthday present and it was one of the best gifts I've ever received. The cover alone tells a thousand tales and I've been sporting those images on my social media profiles for months now simply because of how exquisite they are.

Inside, the art continues to come alive off the page. Once upon a time I wanted to be an artist. And as I looked at each panel inside Harleen I reveled in the realistic details of the artistry. For instance, they somehow made each character's eyes look as though they held moisture in them. That is some fine work for sure!

So I was already interested in reading the story from the art itself but also because I've loved Harley Quinn since she debuted on Batman: The Animated series. Now in front of me in full living color I got to read a take on her backstory that was very well written. Without giving away spoilers I'll just say that her spiral from Dr. Quinzel into Harley Quinn is laid out perfectly within those pages. You know Joker is manipulating her but you're still along for the ride. Also, an unexpected cameo from Harvey Dent (a.k.a. Two-Face) really brings the whole story together.

If they ever want to do a Harley Quinn origin story movie ( and I think they should) Margot Robbie would rock this story line! And and in my personal opinion let's bring back Jared Leto as The Joker and give him a chance to show what he can really do in the role.

I loved everything about Harleen. If you're a fan of Harley Quinn, The Joker, or just graphic novels in general I suggest picking this up. For me it's the perfect coffee table book...ha ha ha
